Freightliner
makes a Class 5 to compete with Ford F550 and GM C5500. Drivers look to
the Business Class M2 100 when visibility and maneuverability are top
priorities. Available with 19.5-inch wheels and hydraulic or air brakes, the
M2 100 is ideal for tight situations such as pickup and delivery, food and
beverage, and towing. The Business Class M2 106 offers exceptional
visibility and get-around like the M2 100 but in a bigger, stronger package.
With a standard Mercedes Benz 900 engine and a chassis that can support a
wide array of bodies and chassis-mounted equipment, the M2 106 is a true
workhorse that will please even the most discerning driver. The Business
Class M2 112 boasts a 1,200-square-inch radiator with the MBE 4000 engine
and available optional TufTrac and AirLiner suspension systems to offer
rock-solid performance with a smooth ride under the most extreme conditions.
The M2 112 is available as a truck or tractor with GVWR up to 66,000 pounds.

Beverage Distribution and Towing

LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY…Freightliner Trucks today announced the addition of a
100-inch BBC (bumper-to-back-of-cab) model to its Business Class® M2 line of
medium-duty and vocational trucks. Available in gross vehicle weight ratings
from 16,000 to 26,000 pounds, the new Business Class M2 100 is ideal for a
variety of mid-range truck applications including pickup and delivery, food
and beverage distribution, towing and general services. The new vehicle was
introduced at the Mid-America Trucking Show here.
“The Business Class M2 100 further expands the versatility of the new
Freightliner medium-duty product line with a vehicle that suits a variety of
urban and P&D applications,” said Mark Lampert, Senior Vice President, Sales
& Marketing, Freightliner Trucks.
Introduced in February 2002, the Business Class M2 line of medium-duty and
vocational trucks is designed to provide unprecedented advantages in
productivity and operational efficiency to commercial truck operations.
Freightliner Trucks also offers the Business Class M2 in 106-inch and
112-inch BBC configurations. The company began production of the Business
Class M2 106 last year.
According to Lampert, the Business Class M2 100 is built to excel in
applications where visibility and maneuverability are top priorities. The
truck’s cab position allows for a shorter wheelbase to further decrease
turning radius with an up-to-55-degree wheel cut. In addition, the truck
features a dramatically sloped hood with 2500-square inch windshield for
superb visibility.
“The Business Class M2 100 is designed to navigate narrow alleys and
congested roadways with ease while giving the driver a clear view of his or
her surroundings,” Lampert explained. “This is a vehicle that will
contribute to overall operational safety and productivity.”
Contributing to driver productivity and safety is the Business Class M2
100’s roomy cab and completely redesigned heating/cooling/ventilation
system, which keeps drivers comfortable and productive. In addition, the
truck’s wider, taller doors provide easy cab ingress and egress.
Even with its nimble performance on the job, the Business Class M2 is built
to handle the everyday rigors of commercial vehicle operation.
The truck’s rugged aluminum cab is lightweight and corrosion-resistant. The
truck’s doors are designed to withstand punishing daily use. Strong frame
rails stand up to demanding operations.
Every component and system is optimized for maximum performance and uptime.
An advanced, multiplexed wiring system eliminates large wiring bundles,
contributing to greater reliability and simple diagnostics. A new air
manifold unit reduces the number of air lines in the cab, delivering greater
reliability and performance.
Easy access to major components, color-coded wires, simplified electronics
and straightforward diagnostics enable simple, quick servicing of the truck.
The truck also features a clean back-of-cab, making it easy for bodybuilders
to install equipment.
The Business Class M2 100 comes standard with the MBE900 engine from
Mercedes-Benz. Four- and six-cylinder MBE900 engines are available with
horsepower ratings from 170 to 250 and torque from 420 to 660 pound-feet.
A wide range of transmissions are available including the MBT 6-speed manual
transmissions from Mercedes-Benz, Eaton-Fuller 6- or 7-speed manuals, and
Allison automatic transmissions. Front axle ratings range from 6,000 to
10,000 pounds while rear axle ratings range from 10,000 pounds to 17,500
pounds. The truck is available with 19.5" wheels.
“The Business Class M2 100 will be easy to spec and easy to use,” said
Lampert. “This truck is ready to go to work when you are.”
Production of the Business Class M2 100 begins in April 2003.
All Business Class M2 vehicles are supported by the vast Freightliner Trucks
dealer network, many with 24/7 service locations for customer convenience.
Freightliner Trucks is a
division of Freightliner LLC,
headquartered in Portland, Oregon, and is the leading heavy-duty truck
manufacturer in North America. Freightliner Trucks produces and markets
Class 3-8 trucks and is a company of
DaimlerChrysler, the world’s
largest commercial vehicle manufacturer.
