Michael Terry Receives Distinguished Outstanding Member Award

(March 1, 2011 - Topeka, KS) The National Association of Trailer Manufacturers (NATM) presented Michael Terry, Cimarron Trailers, Chickasha, Okla., with the NATM Outstanding Member Award Thursday, Feb. 24, 2011, at the Awards Luncheon during the NATM 23rd Annual Convention and Trade Show in Albuquerque, N.M. The Outstanding Member Award is presented each year to an individual who has made significant contributions to the trailer manufacturing industry.

Terry has been active in NATM since its inception in 1987. He was one of the eight trailer manufacturers at the first meeting in Chickasha, Okla., Sept. 22, 1987. Terry was elected as one of the founding members of NALTM (National Association of Livestock Trailer Manufacturers) and was immediately elected as the first vice president of the organization – a position he would hold again in the future.

Terry was again elected to the NATM Board of Directors in 2005 and served on the board from 2005 – 2011. In 2007, he was elected treasurer and subsequently served as vice president and as president from 2009 – 2010. During his tenure on the board, he served on and chaired numerous committees including executive, technical, finance, trailer dealers, governance and government affairs. Although Terry’s term on the board ends this year, he has volunteered to continue to serve on the technical, governance and trailer dealer committees.

Terry has worked in the trailer industry for 35 years, beginning in 1976 when he went to work for Haynes Trailers in Chickasha, Okla., as a draftsman, later moving into sales and eventually becoming the general manager. In 1984, he moved on to Hart Trailers where he was involved in many aspects of the business, from engineering, design and production to sales, marketing and advertising. During his employment with Hart, he was instrumental in transitioning the company from steel to aluminum trailers in the early 90s and was named general manager. In 2000, he and a partner started Cimarron Trailers. In 2004, he and wife Lynn bought out their partners and have run Cimarron ever since.

The National Association of Trailer Manufacturers was founded in 1987 and represents manufacturers who produce light- and medium-duty trailers. NATM members also include suppliers to the industry. It is organized to promote, both to the trailer industry and to the public, a universal recognition of safety and quality in the trailer manufacturing industry. NATM works to improve the trailer industry through the promotion of compliance with Federal Safety Regulations and selected industry standards. The association currently has more than 800 member companies across the United States, Canada, Mexico and other foreign countries.
