DETROIT - A year after unveiling a concept version at the North American International Auto Show, Honda Monday revealed the production edition of the Ridgeline pickup - the company's fist such vehicle.

On sale this March, the 2006 Ridgeline is Honda's entry into the truck sector that Dick Colliver, American Honda executive vice president, said will account for 60 percent the U.S. vehicle market in five years.

The Ontario-built Ridgeline is a four-door, five-passenger pickup with a five-foot cargo bed. It is powered by a 3.5-liter, 255-horsepower V6 with a towing capacity of 5,000 pounds and has all-wheel drive. It has more rear knee room than the competition, and it features a unique trunk-like storage are a under the cargo bed.

"That addresses one of the biggest complaints about today's trucks," Colliver said.

The trunk area can hold three golf bags or equivalent cargo.

"This is as real truck," Colliver said. "It's not a Pilot (Honda's SUV) with a bed, and it's not on a car platform."
