2011 Chevy 2500 HD, King of the Road

2011 Chevy HD 2500 LT single cab with big gauges, a nice layout, you can see them at a glance while driving. You need to know at a glance if engine temp in the normal range, oil pressure, transmission temp, battery charge all in operating range. A change in gauge readings will give you early warnings of mechanical problems, expensive repairs and down time. I'm on the road every month and breaking down a thousand miles from home is more expensive then if I walk home from my local repair shop.

This truck had the 6.0L V-8 gasser with the 6L90 automatic transmission. Which would be my choice if I didn't tow trailers over 12,000 lbs often. This media truck came with a 3.73 axle ratio, the 4.10 is an option.

Equipped with the HD Trailering package for $780 gives you the locking differential and integrated trailer brake controller. Standard equipment includes Stabilitrak stability control, Trailer Sway Control and Hill Start Assist. All great safety features, Hill Start Assist is new for 2011, which helps hold the truck still when taking off going from brake to gas pedal.

Great headroom for my cowboy hat if you don't count the @!% head rest. I know we have to be safe. I've already downsized from a 4 inch brim to a 3 inch. Now I'll have to notch out the back to fit new truck head rests. Might even have to wear a baseball cap while driving.

Such big improvement to the GM HD line for 2011, from diesel engine, frame, suspension, steering,  braking etc. This model of the GMT900 platform is the most significant truck improvement for GM since the Duramax diesel came about in 2001. Read my 2011 GM HD review  and GM's press release

Haven't been in a single cab truck long bed in quite awhile. This is the truck configuration we all use to drive in the seventies. My 1973 3/4 ton had stock racks. I would back down a ditch and load my Quarter Horse for going to the neighbors and rounding up their cows and sorting yearlings. Now in the fuel crunch, buying a regular cab long bed would save you money on a truck intended for hauling and towing.
