The New Wastegate Turbocharger 2005.

The new Cummins-powered Dodge Ram Heavy Duty 610 relies on a new Holset turbocharger to help deliver its industry-leading performance. The 5.9-liter Cummins 610 is fitted with the Holset HE351 turbocharger which allows the engine to deliver more power and more torque than before. The new Cummins 610 generates its peak torque of 610 lb-ft at 1600 rpm, earlier than competitive diesels.

The 610’s turbocharger delivers more power and torque than previous models despite having the same envelope size. It is also the first Holset turbocharger to utilize compressor cover-mounted “command valve” wastegate technology which provides an additional degree of control sophistication. Wastegate turbochargers are matched to give good performance at low engine speed with the valve closed. The command valve enables override of conventional boost air-controlled actuation for even better control, improved transient response and reduced exhaust temperatures and emissions.

The new Holset MY04.5 turbocharger is being manufactured at both Holset's U.K. plant and its Charleston, S.C., facility.
